XM cables are Barrett’s proprietary formulation and designed to last the life of the robot. Standard cables are less expensive, but have a shorter working life, depending on how hard they are driven. Beginning in 2014, all 4-dof WAM arms ship with XM cables. Beginning in 2015, all 4-dof and all 7-dof WAM arms ship with XM cables. |

If and when needed, cable replacement is relatively simple (there is a set of short video clips that guide the way), so the job can be done on-site. From a warranty perspective, Barrett covers the parts cost of XM cable replacements if one should become damaged. However, Barrett does not cover the parts cost of Standard cables if one becomes damaged. Users can upgrade from Standard to XM at any time by contacting Barrett for an upgrade quotation. If an XM cable does fail, it is a condition of the warranty that the damaged cable(s) be returned to Barrett for analysis. |
